Bao* |
Bao and her mother |
Bao* is a friendly girl whose favourite games include
playing with dolls, dancing and singing. Her mother says that Bao always
says that when she is older she wants to be a Nurse.
In this part of the world children must grow up fast and
take an active roll in the families wealth and welfare.
Bao is now in the 4th grade at primary school. Her
performance is good. Bao is a bright child and studies hard.
Bao's day starts early with chores and then a 45 minute
walk to school. Along the way she meets up with her friends which makes
the walk to school more bearable.
Bao's favourite subjects are Maths, English, Music.
Bao Lives with her elder brother and mother. Unfortunately
her Father Died. Her mother is working as a peasant farmer.
Bao is in good health at present although when sick the
nearest hospital is 2 hours away.
Bao lives in a small house made of stick and mud, it has a
corrugated metal roof.
Cooking is by open fire and there is no latrine. The
family having to use open fields or similar for this most basic function.
Water in the rainy season is drawn from the same area's as
the toilet facilities. The nearest almost safe water is 1km away.
Bao's family and community struggle to meet basic
needs that many of us take for granted. Their incomes are small but they
do have enthusiasm and contribute to projects with their own
expertise including materials and labour.
Further updates on Bao's life will be made available here
when received.
