Introducing Child 5 Lega*
Lega is a shy girl who loves playing with her dolls and cooking. Like
most children from the poorer area's of Guatemala Lega has to help with
the daily chores which include housework and looking after her
brothers
Lega is in the 5th grade at primary school and when she grows up she
would like to be a teacher. Her mother says she is a bright child who
studies hard. Lega's school is 30 minutes walk away. her favourite
subjects at school are Social science, Mathematics, and Grammer, and she
excels in them all.
Lega lives with her Father who works as a peasant farmer, Mother and 2
brothers, in a wooden house with a thatched. they do have their own toilet
which helps with their personal hygiene especially the children.
Water is gathered from a local stream and is available all year
round and is basically safe to drink.
Lega's mother cooks on a wood fire. The job of collecting the vast
amounts of wood for cooking and heating takes a long time and is the job
of the mother and children. Lighting is by oil lamps and there is no
electricity
